Pioneer Week Fun!

After having a baby you just don’t plan on doing much other than feeding, changing, and trying to get said baby to sleep. But, Shafer had the entire week off of work, so we thought we’d try to have a little fun.
Last weekend my brother, Todd, and his wife Kara were in town for a wedding so we got to introduce them to Baby M. They’re away for the summer working, so it was fun to have them here!

Big Boy and Miss H have a love/hate relationship!
On Monday we went to the Days of 47 Parade float preview at the Southtowne Expo Center. We live close by and I’ve been wanting to go to something there, but we never get around to it and it always costs money. But, this time it was free and my Grandma happened to call and let us know about it just as we were trying to decide what to do for family night. It was fun to see the floats all at once and in an air conditioned room! The boys enjoyed looking at them and running around like crazy. We also got to vote for our favorites. My Uncle’s Stake had a float with seagulls and the Mormon crickets. It was really cute so I voted for it and it ended up winning the people’s choice award! Way to go!
On Wednesday we headed up to Bountiful for their Handcart Days celebration. My Mom and Emily and her kids came with us. They have a really great carnival set up that’s really family friendly. We went to the Sandy 4th of July carnival and everything was super expensive, so we weren’t impressed. For the Bountiful one you had to buy tickets for the food and rides and they were 50 cents each. The good part was that nothing was more than 3 tickets, including the food! It was great! The kids each got to play a few games and win some prizes, then they each got to ride a ride and have a snowcone! We had a fun time, despite the heat! Afterwards we had some pizza, then headed up to my Grandparent’s house where they have a great view of the fireworks. All of my local cousins were there and we had a great time chatting, eating yummy food prepared by Grandma and watching a great fireworks show! We also got to introduce Baby M to some new relatives. My cousin, Jenny, has a little 4 month old baby and he’s only 2 pounds more than Baby M, they looked the same size!
The next day was the actual Pioneer Day. This time we headed for Utah County. Shafer went golfing with his Dad and brother-in-law Brent. I headed to Lindon to visit with Shafer’s Mom and sister, Sadie. When the boys were done golfing we went over to Granny Woolf’s for dinner. She was so nice to prepare a whole meal for us at the last minute. We had a nice evening talking and the boys ran wild in Granny’s yard. Big Boy absolutely loves playing with his cousins, I don’t know what we’ll do if we have to move again!
We’ve had a fun week and we’ve got another one coming up. My other brother Steve and his family are coming up from Phoenix for the week so we’ll be busy. So much for sitting around with a newborn!!
