Our backyard has been a thorn in my side since we moved in. The previous owner had it just the way she wanted it, but it was not what we needed at all. It was an old lady/cat yard and I want a fun kid-friendly yard. Since moving in we have removed over 30 bushes and trees and there were still a ton more to take out. Over the weekend we rented a bobcat and Shafer took them all out in one fell swoop! Here's a before:

We also enlisted the help of some scouts. As you can see, some were more helpful than others!

I was sad to see some of the bushes go because they were pretty. But, they were all planted so randomly that it would have been impossible to work around them and still get the yard we're envisioning, plus they were too big to transplant. We were able to keep a handful of trees that were planted around the perimeter of the yard.
We were planning on getting some loads of topsoil on Memorial Day, but for those of you in Utah you know that it was raining all weekend. So, our yard was too muddy to do any work. Now we'll just have to do it without the convenience of the bobcat. Oh, well, maybe it will be for the best. We can spend the next week picking out rocks! Yay!
Next on the list; topsoil, sprinklers, and finally grass! I can't wait to have a yard the kids can actually play in!!

A Bobcat! That's totally impressive. Yay for all your hard work - it really will pay off and your yard will be done before you know it. Our yard took 8 months, but now I love it every time I send the boys to the backyard to play!
