Day 3-Big Boy's Birthday

Day 3 was a busy one with Big Boy's 8th birthday.  It was interesting to pack for a trip and have to plan for decorations, presents, and cake!  He woke up to a pile of presents on the table.  He got a few books which he and his mama were thrilled about.  He also got his scout uniform since he will now be joining the ranks of Wolf Scouts!

Here the boys are enjoying some of the new toys:

We started our day with a trip to the Mormon Battalion site by Old Town in San Diego.

They've completely redone the whole thing and it was pretty awesome.  They take you through the Battalion's journey with Disneyland-like effects.  At the end you can pan for gold and do a few other pioneeresque things.

Here's the birthday boy.  They really had a great time there, I would highly recommend it if you're in the area!

They take a picture of your group and give you a print and can also send an e-mail to anyone you want.  Too bad Cheeks' face is partially hidden!

After that the boys were starving so we headed to a yummy Mexican restaurant in Old Town.

I had one of the best meals ever here, it was seriously sooooo good!!!

I took this picture on my phone to send to my parents, it's always frustrating that my phone pictures turn out to be some of the cutest when they're not as quality as the camera ones!

Then we headed to Seaport Village and watched some kites and some street performers.
We kept showing the boys the huge Coronado bridge in the distance and asked them if they wanted to drive over it.  So we did.  They loved it!  Then we went to the beach over there and spent the afternoon digging in sand and playing Frisbee.

This here is one of my favorite pictures from the whole trip.  I wish we had a better zoom on our camera.  You'll want to click on this and see if you can see it bigger, you'll be glad you did!  The boys ran into the ocean in their clothes again and Shafer's solution was to take Monkey's clothes off down to his undies.  Monkey as you can see was very happy with this situation!  Don't worry, we quickly put their suits on after this!

After the beach we came home and grilled some hot dogs and had our cake and ice cream.  Hopefully it was a memorable birthday for Big Boy.  How often to you get to be on vacation for your birthday?  It was a really nice day, one of my favorites from the trip!!  Happy Birthday Big Boy!  We sure love you and can't believe it's been 8 years since you came into our family!!!
