We woke up yesterday morning to some major fog (smog?) and frost/ice crystals covering everything! It was really pretty, I only wish I had a super fancy camera to take better pictures! 
We picked up Shafer from work and headed to the Trax station to meet up with two of his sisters and their families. It was free to ride down for the Christmas Carol Sing Along at the Energy Solutions Arena. 
The boys enjoyed the ride for the first few stops until the train was packed like a can of sardines! We also had the heater blowing (totally unnecessary) hot air on us the whole time, so that didn't help the situation! 
We finally made it to our destination and it seemed the entire state heard about this free night of transportation, food, and entertainment! We waited in line for food tickets for a few minutes then realized it wasn't going to happen. They were asking how many tickets people needed and people were saying 3 or 5. We were saying 25. It was just too much!
After realizing how crazy it was going to be we decided to peek inside the arena for a few minutes, then head to Temple Square. Luckily we walked in just in time to see John Schmidt perform!! He's one of my piano heroes! He played his now famous Love Story/Viva La Vida combo and it was FABULOUS!! 
After that we headed to McDonalds to eat since the free food fell through. Then it was off to see the lights! We arrived just in time for all the visitor centers to be closed, but it was fun to see the lights with the boys!

Monkey had finally had enough so we left the rest of our group standing by the reflection pool and bolted for the Trax stop! He cried the first half of the ride home, then fell asleep the rest of the way. I guess we know his limit now!!

We were thrilled when we got to the car and Big Boy and Cheeks told us how much fun they had! What a relief because aside from a few high points the night seemed like a total bust to me! Sometimes you get what you pay for! But, the boys just loved being with their cousins and seeing some new things. It was definitely harder on for the younger ones!
So, that was our first time to the sing along and our last! That's the problem with free things, everyone finds out about them!!

My mother in law plays the violin at the sing along. I have never been but hear that it is fun.
That is so true about free things. Such a pain in the rear. I mean, it's cool and all that the community wants to do things like that for people, but very chaotic. Glad you had fun. I hope it was a little warmer for you guys at Temple Square. The night we went, it was sooooo cold!
I have a good friend in Utah that just posted about the same thing! They didn't even try the sing-along after they rode trax, and their kids weren't too interested in the lights at temple square either. Sorry it was a bust! Next year just hold your own sing-along :)
