We spent Christmas Eve at my parent's house and started early. We started out with a few crafty projects for the kids. First they did epsom salt painting, which turned out really cool. They colored snowmen on blue construction paper, then painted over it with epsom salt water. Then when it dries it looks like snow or ice on it.
It was a good one for the kids because they didn't need too much help doing it. The only problem came when Monkey started drinking the salt water. Did you know epsom salt is a laxative? Interesting...
After that we made some paper stars to put on the Christmas tree. The December Friend had instructions for how to make them. They turned out really cute. However, they were a little more on the difficult side so the adults ended up doing most of it. My Grandma kept making jokes about the adults doing the kids crafts as the kids ran off to play. Oh, well, I really enjoyed making them and they are now hanging above my sink!
Then the kids got to frost cookies to leave out for Santa. The kids were eating more frosting and toppings than decorating, so the adults ended up helping a lot with that one as well.
It was a good thing we started early because the kids wanted to get outside in all that snow!! The weather is never too bad for my boys to ride big wheels!!
After the snow play we dressed them all up and we did the nativity. This is the best group shot I got.
This is when the sheep started licking the angel:
And this is when the shepherd and the angel fought over the shepherd's staff:
After a fabulous dinner of steaks and sweet potatoes we went outside to light up some luminaries along the walk. They looked really pretty.
Then we packed up our clan and drove home. Monkey and Cheeks fell asleep on the way so we put them right to bed without even putting on pajamas, no sense in letting them get their second wind, right? So, we opened up new pajamas, hung stockings, put out cookies for Santa, and read The Night Before Christmas with just Big Boy. It was kind of nice and calm, I was beginning to see why people only have one kid! :) We could hear him up in his room for hours after that. I just hope he didn't hear us!!
More on Christmas Day to come...
